Euro spec S14s come fitted with a rear bumper insert for the Euro size numbers plates and fog lamps. In another bizzare display of penny pinching, Nissan only fitted one working fog lamp. The other is a blanking unit. This as all fine and dandy until you need to turn your fogs on and start receiving the 'one of your fogs is out, mate' comments. It also looks unbalanced. |

Fancy giving your instrument pod a bit more of a sports look? Fitting a set of white dials can transform the look of your dash and lighten a dark interior (if only marginally!). |

Have you noticed how exposed your radiator is behind the front bumper air scoop? All it takes is a piece of gravel or debris to be thrown up by something in front and a bit of bad luck and you will have a punctured radiator. If you fitted an expensive Front Mounted Intercooler, it is even more a risk. I decided to see what I could do about this. |

A lot of people like to make their S14 a bit more anonymous by de-badging it. This is fine, however, when the Nissan badge is removed from the bonnet, you are left with two locator pin holes to fill somehow. This is why I preferred the replace the badge with an alternative. There are many choices but I liked the S15 Silvia badge. These are rather difficult to get hold of and, as a result, you can land-up paying a fortune for one. Luckily my contacts in Australia came to the rescue and picked one up from a local Nissan dealer (thanks Dad!). A very reasonable £15.60 equivalent. |

In the UK, many owners of Japanese cars are afflicted by huge front bumper 'bricks' for mounting standard length number plates on. If the car was designed without a 'brick', its never going to look good with one! This can be easily rectified by 'de-bricking' or removing the plate mount. If you are going to do this modification, make sure you have the replacement plate first! Obvious, I know, but in all the excitement... The new plate is going to have to be a double-line style similar to those fitted on offroaders. Dimension details can be found below. You will also need a Phillips screwdriver and mounting screws or pads (if not provided with your new plate). |

To the uninitiated, changing an S14 headlight bulb may seem a simple job. How wrong they would be! Access to the back of the headlight units is so restrictive (especially on the battery side) that you would find yourself fiddling about for up to an hour blindly trying to get your fingers into very difficult spaces. |

Ever thought how loud the road noise is coming from the back of your S14? There is a very good reason for this: when Nissan were thinking of ways to save money on this car, they discovered two massive gaps they could avoid soundproofing. By dealing with these, the amount of road noise is quite dramatically reduced. You need to access the void above the rear wheel arches. To do this, the back seat need removing. You will need 10, 12 and 14mm sockets and a flat-head screwdriver. |

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve and EGR Control Valve (EGRC-BPT) were fitted on S14s only to reduce exhaust emissions and not much else. They do, however, have the nasty side effect of causing a noticeable power hesitation at 2300-2500 rpm. |
